My Dear COTC Family:
The year 207 has been a year of surprises. I have had ups and downs, but I
give God thanks for the support that I have always had from my family and my
COTC family.
My year of surprises started on March 16th, when I was honored by being
ordained as a Pastoral Pastor of the TE-TA-MA Truth Foundation - Family Of
URI by Rev. James and Rev. Angela. I feel very close to my
family of COTC and a new road has opened up in my spiritual life.
In April, my daughter Edith, was given the opportunity of a new job in
Binghamton, New York and we moved from Texas. It was a happy change for me
since we now live only 15 minutes away from my daughter, Liz, and 5 hours
away from my daughter, Edna. Now we visited each other frequently.
By living in Binghamton I am closer to my doctors. My health has improved
almost 100%. I no longer take all the pain medication that I was taking. I
have learned to tolerate my incapacities and pain. Thanks to God, I don't
have anything that is malignant; my ailments are either arthritis or benign
chronic conditions due to from getting older! I need to follow a treatment
for my heart condition, feet, knees and back, but it has been a blessing in
comparison to the last few years.
As part of my therapy, I have joined the YMCA to do joint exercises. Since
the YMCA sponsor different activities for the community, I also volunteer in
these activities. It has helped my physical as well as my spiritual health.
What I am deeply sorry about is not being able to attend the conference in
Mexico, but I was there with you in spirit.
I have taken advantage of the fact that I had to be home and sitting for
long periods of time and I have crocheted blankets to donate for babies that
are premature and are not expected to survive. These blankets are used to
cover their incubators and then given to the parents as a keepsake after the
baby passes away. Crocheting these blankets fills me with emotion, since I
am contributing a little bit to the happiness of the parents of babies, at a
very sad moment in their lives.
To end my year of surprises, I was chosen to be a member of the Prayer
Committee, something that is very spiritual for me, to be able to share with
Rev. Rosemarie and Rev. Barbara. To be able to ask God for all of our
brothers and sisters in Christ that are in need is very emotional and
important to me.
I feel very honored to be a part of the Heart Link
Committee. I am responsible for calling other members to remind them of our
meetings. I am also responsible to remind our members, by phone, of any COTC
activities and also those members that do not speak English.
I hope that with the help from God and my spiritual guides, I will be able
to see you in the 2008 conference.
Blessings to all!!
With love,
Rev. Nilda Torres,
