Reflections on 2007 Ministerial Activity The last year and a half, the lesson has been one of attachment and loss. Not attachment to things as much as people. I have experienced loss of friends due to moves, misunderstandings of ego, and physical death. It has brought home the fact that we are so interdependent on each other. The work of my ministry continues to be through teaching and service. I work as an eco-tour guide, teaching residents and visitors to Florida about our unique ecology. In only a few generations, we have gone from a nation of farmers to an urban nation populated by city folks who are fearful about nature and the natural world. They are separate from it. A child on a tour recently told me “I love nature – it’s so different!” I convinced her SHE was a part of that nature. Since most people who live in Florida did not grow up here, there is no connection to the way Florida used to be. As a tour guide we help people understand how unique and fragile this ecosystem is. The only way to preserve what is unbuilt here is to teach children to save it. Once people are out in the woods, with their cell phones left behind, they become quiet, still and aware. For many, it is their first time ever standing under a tree, with nothing else to see but more trees, nothing to hear but birds and bugs. It becomes a spiritual moment. I also work in a health food store. I help people take mastery of their physical health. Empowering people to change their diet often brings them in touch with their spiritual side, and they wind up changing their lifestyle altogether. I feel honored to help facilitate that. I look forward to the coming year and its challenges. I know we are united with one another on multiple levels. It is a continuing evolvement. Knowing I am part of the Spiritual collective of COTC continues to support and empower me and my spiritual walk and evolution.
